RESPIRE is the NIHR (National Institute for Health Research) Global Health Research Unit on Respiratory Health. It is a collaboration with partners in Asia: Bangladesh, India, Malaysia and Pakistan, where respiratory diseases are a major cause of illness and death. Respiratory diseases cover a range of conditions which affect the lungs and breathing. They can be acute conditions (start suddenly) or chronic conditions (long-term). Both have significant implications for the health and economy of countries across the globe. RESPIRE's vision is to reduce the impact and number of deaths caused by respiratory diseases in Asia.
