The polygon represents an average measure of the highest tides over a long period of time (in colloquial terms this is equivalent to the 'high tide mark'). The term ‘springs’ denotes tides that are higher than average. This data was extracted from Ordnance Survey Boundary Line and polygonised using ArcGIS 10.2. Boundary Line is available as OS OpenData, further information about the dataset can be found at: http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/docs/user-guides/boundary-line-user-guide.pdf. GIS vector data. This dataset was first accessioned in the EDINA ShareGeo Open repository on 2014-11-19 and migrated to Edinburgh DataShare on 2017-02-22.
